NIAD is a pioneer in providing vehicles for transporting radioactive containers.

The National Agency for Investment and Development of Vietnam (NIAD) has handed over a vehicle carrying radioactive containers to the Department of Radiation and Nuclear Safety under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

This product is part of a project funded by the Office of Radiation Security, National Nuclear Security Agency (ORS/NNSA) of the United States. This is a pioneering unit in Vietnam that has successfully manufactured vehicles for transporting radioactive containers, ensuring compliance with nuclear radiation safety criteria, radiation testing, and obtaining authorization for circulation from the state management agency.

The handover ceremony for the vehicle transporting the radioactive container was attended by Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khai - Director of the Department of Radiation and Nuclear Safety – Ministry of Science and Technology, Ms. Holly Lindquist Thomas - Representative of the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, leaders from the Energy, Health, Science, Technology and Environment departments, and representatives from NIAD. The ceremony was also connected online with ORS/NNSA experts from the United States.

Recognizing the urgent need for a specialized vehicle to transport radioactive materials for hospitals with radiotherapy machines or testing units and laboratories using radioactive sources; and also understanding the immeasurable consequences of radioactive material loss if transport vehicles do not meet security and safety standards, NIAD has collaborated with partners to conduct research to create a product that can meet these requirements and provide it to those in need.

This is both a challenge and a great opportunity for NIAD. Despite facing numerous challenges during the manufacturing process, as this product was unprecedented in the Vietnamese market, NIAD – with its years of experience as a leading company in Vietnam in converting commercial vehicles into specialized vehicles with high technical and security requirements (money transport vehicles, etc.) – successfully manufactured and delivered the vehicle for transporting radioactive containers to the customer on time. Achieving this goal in 2020 is a memorable milestone for the company, contributing to a greater diversity of converted vehicle products offered to the market alongside its main product line: money transport vehicles.

This specialized vehicle is highly practical in ensuring the security of radioactive material transport, contributing to strengthening technical support capabilities for state management, especially in responding to radiation and nuclear incidents.
